    Statutory accounts

What's included in your statutory accounts

A set of statutory accounts is more than a single document. We prepare each component to Companies House and accounting standards, ensuring the full picture of your company's financial position is accurate and complete.

Statement of Financial Position (Balance Sheet)

A snapshot of your company's assets, liabilities and shareholders' equity at the year-end date. It shows what the business owns and owes at a single point in time.

Statement of Comprehensive Income (Profit & Loss)

Revenue, costs and the resulting profit or loss for the financial period. It shows how the business performed over the year and underpins your Corporation Tax computation.

    Statement of Changes in Equity

Movements in shareholders' funds during the year, including retained earnings, dividends paid and any new share capital introduced.

    Notes to the accounts

Detailed breakdowns and the accounting policies applied. Notes give context to the figures and are a required part of the statutory accounts under FRS 102 or FRS 105.

    Directors' Report (where applicable)

A review of the business and the directors' responsibilities, required for companies that are not classed as small. We prepare this to meet the disclosure requirements of the Companies Act 2006.

    Deadlines

    Filing deadlines & compliance

Missing a filing deadline is the most common cause of avoidable penalties. We track every key date for you and manage the filings to keep your company fully compliant.

The deadlines below apply to private limited companies. We confirm your specific dates each year and plan the work to ensure everything is filed well ahead of time.

    Accounts filed at Companies House

Within 9 months of the financial year-end for private limited companies.

    Corporation Tax return (CT600)

Filed within 12 months of the accounting period end, with tax payable by 9 months and 1 day after that date.

    Confirmation statement

At least once a year, confirming your registered details and shareholders to Companies House.

    Late filing penalties

Companies House penalties start at £150 for accounts filed up to a month late and escalate sharply the longer the delay, doubling for repeat offences.

    Management accounts

What we report on and why

Statutory accounts look backwards; management accounts help you look ahead. Prepared monthly or quarterly, they give you timely, decision-ready information long before your year-end figures are finalised.

    How management accounts differ

    • Timely. Prepared during the year, not months after it ends, so you can act on the numbers while they still matter.
    • Flexible format. Tailored to how you run your business, not bound by statutory presentation rules.
    • Forward-looking. Built around the metrics that drive your decisions, with comparisons to budget and forecast.

    The reports we prepare

    Cash flow

Highlights pressure points before they become problems and supports funding decisions.

    Profitability

Shows which products, services or divisions are genuinely driving profit.

    Performance ratios (KPIs)

The specific indicators that matter to your business, tracked consistently over time.

    Budget vs actual

Variance analysis that flags where the business is ahead or behind plan, and why.

    Monthly or quarterly?

We agree a reporting cadence that suits your business. Monthly suits fast-moving or cash-sensitive businesses; quarterly works well for more stable operations. Either way, you receive consistent, comparable figures you can trust to make decisions.
